Berty Premalal Dissanayake was born on 15th July 1954, as the eldest child in a family of two Girls and two boys.
He was an all round student in his schoolboy days, but unfortunately after his father’s tragic death in 1971 he was forced to abandon post graduate education and to take over the responsibilities of the family.
Berty Premalal Dissanayake took over management of his late father’s lands and businesses, providing for his family as a farmer and a businessman.
Having married Jayani Tissera Dissanayake, a trained teacher of Mathematics, the couple have four children, all of whom bear top level positions in their respective professions.
Entering politics as a secretary of Sri Lanka Freedom Party of Habarana Town Hall in 1972, Berty Premalal Dissanayeka later became the organizer of the Thalawa seat under the guidance of her Excellency Sirimawo Bandaranayeka. 1989 was a remarkable year for him as he was nominated for the Parliamentary Election, which he won by a considerable margin, and entered the parliament in Anuradhapura in 1989 as the Minister of Social Services.
Helping the society in various ways, Berty Premalal Dissanayekahas has been a very active, volunteer social worker in Sri Lanka. Never has Berty Premalal Dissanayake consider the size, colour, nationality or the race of a person. Help has always been given to those who required it.
Helping the disabled people, the students in the schools of rural areas, reconstructing the lakes in Anuradhapura, and helping to build the temples and uplift Buddhism in Anuradhapura are just a fragment of what Berty Premalal Dissanayake has done as service to his the community that elected him.
Berty Premalal Dissanayeka became the Chief Minister of the North Central Province in 1999 which gave him the opportunity to conduct his social service plans in a wider area thereby affecting a greater number of people. Berty Premalal Dissanayeka has the most probability of becoming the Chief Minister of the North Central Province, again in the upcoming 2012 Election.
